June 19, 2025 – Crop Production for Green Roofs Masterclass
Green roofs have been adopted in cities all over the world to combat the urban heat island effect and manage stormwater runoff, but they also hold great potential to produce agricultural crops. On a quarter-acre green roof, the Urban Farm at Toronto Metropolitan University grows more than 80 different crops, harvesting an average of 7,000 lbs of produce annually for the community. Join Arlene Throness and Ines Lacarne to learn how to operate a market garden on a green roof using ecological growing practices. From crop planning, to cultivation and harvest, to closing the roof for the winter, this masterclass will take you through each stage of seasonal production on an urban agriculture green roof.

June 20, 2025 Grey to Green Conference
Engage with leading professionals, researchers, and policymakers as we explore the latest innovations in green infrastructure. Through expert-led presentations, panel discussions, and case studies, attendees will gain valuable insights into climate resilience, urban biodiversity, and sustainable design strategies. See the detailed agenda below.

Why Green Infrastructure Matters in Toronto

Toronto is a North American leader in green roof implementation, thanks to its forward-thinking Green Roof Bylaw and strong commitment to sustainability. As cities face increasing challenges from climate change, green infrastructure—such as green roofs, living walls, and urban forests—plays a crucial role in mitigating urban heat, managing stormwater, and improving air quality. By integrating nature-based solutions into the built environment, Toronto continues to set the standard for resilient and livable cities

This conference offers an unmatched opportunity to network with fellow professionals, exchange ideas, and discover new opportunities in the rapidly growing green infrastructure sector.

The Toronto Grey to Green Conference is approved for 7 HSW Continuing Education Credits from AIA, ASLA and GRHC.
